My obs watch and its adopted members are damn on and we do the craziest things. Like madly taking photos over and over again, drinking beer and playing cards and singing songs loudly in public. And singing national day songs when looking at fireworks, and challenging each other to chinese tongue twisters, and pretending to be ac or astar people.

Our dance worked it out! Dying for all the photos!

Oh yah and a new list-
chee wei's 5 most therapeutic activities

5. Washing dishes and seeing the plates disappear from the basin one by one, followed by the water flowing down the sinkhole in a whirlpool.

4. Walking down orchard with hands full of shopping bags. Feeling the heat emanating from a laptop's keyboard in an air conditioned office.

3. Singing along to the most bansheeish tori amos songs.

2. Bursting bubble wrap one by one and then many by many.

1. Talking about how everyone knows each other six-degrees style, and how people you know will suddenly become famous public figures while you get stuck behind, and how insecure you feel and then finding out that everyone feels the same way.

Family Day took on a whole different meaning when the department I was with for only 2 days went to brewerks for lunch, with only one family member in sight. Even before our lunch arrived at the table, the guys were plying me and fellow intern shao ming with beer glass after beer glass. I'm such a bad drinker; it doesn't take much to get me high. There's this guy, we call him uncle bob.. he looks like a bouncer and he drank a lot even though he was driving, and still managed to trash someone else at pool. That would be my vote for most fun day at work.

I know everyone's sick of working and they've either stopped or planning to quit. I've had my share of bumming around in april so I don't miss slacking around that much, even though the quit-so-we-can-go-out-on-weekdays mood is very contagious. I think I'm gaining something from the attachment. At least I know more about the organisation than I ever would through the compressed 3 day orientation course. Now I also have some sense of direction to help me see where I'm going.

Friday night- hong guan, thanks for the conversation. Finally, some one who can talk about architecture and the cultural divide. But I was very tired already, so I couldn't really come up with any proper sentence.

Saturday- was getting ready to get my hair cut when the long hair person behind me started talking. Was slightly taken aback to hear a guy's voice, but oh well. Luckily he didn't mess up the hair. Fast forward 6 hours later>>> Being on the beach during sunset is so deceiving. Because everything is orange, you look like you have a fantastic golden tan. Add to that the slick tanning oil, you really feel like you belong in the magazine photoshoot. But everything snaps back to reality once you have a shower and you're back in the harsh glare of fluorescent light.
We should have sunset all the time.

Tally for the sale.

Crap! Although I emerged relatively unscathed from obs, with only a pimple outbreak and a few bites here and there, I have for some reason screwed up my sleep cycle. For example, on friday night, I went out for dinner with the sd6 people and watched the movie with the army guys. Then I came home and went online since a ritual. On saturday, I had to pull myself up to attend the ioc briefing and then in the evening went for more dance practice. The ioc thing is brilliant- we get free mizuno shoes! I'm going to be stationed at the stall foyer and hopefully I get to go up to the rooftop garden for the vvip post-opening ceremony reception- the party of the year! Meanwhile, after learning and forgetting the semi pro hip hop moves we learnt last week, we have resorted to using one of the rj mass dances, which means more kicking and running man and posing. Then we went for supper and I went home past 12 and just had to go online again.
As a result, the whole of today I felt like a walking zombie. My eyes were in pain and still I went to get the web cam. A lack of sleep also makes you do things like splurging on apple and durian strudels for father's day.

I hope I recover by tomorrow.

xinyi: Another reminder again, in case you missed the one on your tag board. Urban outfitters. Not michigan cheese.

Batman Begins was really really great! I was so afraid that I would fall asleep during the show because I was so tired and 8days said the action comes on only at the end. Anyway, the movie delivered what it promised. No campy costume parade, no fancy gadgets, just a cool gritty plot with cool lines. Was fun to see the pieces fall together, like the star wars prequel. Plus, the scarecrow had the same spectacles as me!

My chances of watching mr and mrs smith is going down by the day. See, when you delay watching a movie, new movies will pop up and then the old movie won't seem so enticing anymore. Maybe this is a good way of saving money. Just keep procrastinating.

On karen's suggestion, I'm now hosting free mp3s for download, like fluxblog. But do tell me if you download the songs cuz it's so effort consuming to choose songs and then upload them to the server.. I also consider this a way to give back to the community, since I always stop the bit torrent from uploading after I have the whole file.

It's summer, so here are some (mostly) classic songs that get me hot and bothered.
SLEATER KINNEY - ENTERTAIN
the bonafide head banging rawk anthem of this year.
ARETHA FRANKLIN - A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE
diva!
DEE DEE BRIDGEWATER - SEX MACHINE
it doesn't even qualify as a whole song, but when she sings "geditgeditgeditgeditgeditgedit", oohhhh baby..
ERYKAH BADU - TYRONE
I always go back to this song for compilations, but it's that good.
PHOENIX - TOO YOUNG
play this loud.
PJ HARVEY - A PERFECT DAY ELISE
play this real loud- running out of descriptions.
RACHAEL YAMAGATA - LETTER READ
like fiona apple x vanessa carlton.

I'm real disappointed by the new jessica simpson video.. the bikini scenes only come towards at the end.. and willie nelson is such an extra in the video.

I think I'm incapable of sleeping early.. I wanted to sleep at 10 so that I can wake up at 6 tomorrow, but then it's nearly 11 now.. and morris has made me all dying to watch the 斗鱼 show, after it was revealed that 蓝正龙 acted in it. Anyway the story is that I caught him on one of those taiwanese variety show and he was repeatedly mocked by the host for not answering questions fast enough, thus appearing a bit slow/stoned. His costar in meteor garden also said that he was very aloof during filming. So I kinda identify with him and I wish I had a cool older brother like that.. kim may recall the msn conversation we had.. haha.

Ok guys, off to pulau ubin, see you on friday.

Suddenly, I have lost all interest in watching desperate housewives on ch 5. Maybe it's because I already know what happened in the finale from the media sites I hungrily devour. Maybe it's because I'm not emotionally attached to the characters; after all, it's a street of nutcases. Maybe it's because of hype overkill; it's simply nauseating to see teri hatcher declare how little sex she's having every damned time and live her second wind of fame when she didn't deserve that best actress trophy. I am sooo not hooked anymore.

I realised that my appetite for pop culture and mass media has grown from strength to strength. Primary school I was already rummaging through 8 days and its chinese counterpart (I don't think it was called i-weekly then). I even started to collect the issues.. as the magazine went through various makeovers. Almost every issue, although some escaped my grasp to the garang guni man. That was from 97 all the way to 03, when my mum decided that they were taking too much space in the cupboard. So in exchange for getting the cupboard space, she helped me cut out all the jason hahn (saffy and amanda) stories. No need to buy the jason hahn book!

Neil Gaiman will be in town 4-6 July, the same period as the IOC meeting. I really liked american gods as well as the sandman books I would read in the library when I should have been mugging for my a levels.. kudos to the rj library for stocking graphic novels.. (is there a better word to say 'kudos'? I don't like using it cuz it's so cliche.) I think it's high time to buy one of his books so that I can go for the book signing.

I'm also feeling good about taking a break from the attachment. So far, the only highlights were helping to do up presentation slides, crunching numbers, attending a boring seminar at the biopolis (Kim, what a cool work place! zaha hadid designed. nice angular carpark.) and going down for a site survey. When I come back I can look forward to helping out in a farewell video thing and going for more site visits and also quiz a colleague on her son's aeronautical engineering studies. There's also an additional plus point to the job. Seeing all those fresh faced kids go to CMPB for their registration and health check up gives me unexpected glee and satisfaction. It's like I'm one-up them. Haha.

I think my bank account is very empty now after 300+ spent on the visa application and the 350 spent on seven dim sum dollies tickets. Gotta start sending out claims forms soon!

Party. If it's too small, it doesn't feel like it's one. If it's too big, there will be people in the room who don't know each other. Michigan state news copy writer Xinyi, you're already missing next week's party. For those not in the know, it's supposed to be like the birthday party that marissa throws for trey and the whole town shows up, in which case you are all invited.

But between now and saturday, interesting things will happen. There's a three day workshop during which I'll get to meet the other scholars. Of course I'd love to know new people and make friends but the dark side of me is making me nervous about this. Butterflies in the stomach again. And I realise that will also be the case when I start university. I think it's quite cool that out of the 20 (or 21) people in odac, half of them will be overseas by this fall. Charlotte, me, Grace, Haoxiang, Houston, Keith, Kim, Kinfoong (NYU!!! *dead envious. good chance of spotting the olsen twins), Luke, Mel (going to india I hear?), Morris.. I got the names off the shirt. Also, I think I won't be coming back in december. I wanna go to vegas!

More updates. +Attended the busker's opera, one of the performances in the arts festival. It was totally unexpected and I showed up in berms. Mark Richmond must have thought I was a wannabe heartlander. Must say it was really good, especially when they sang in some psuedo arabic language with accompanying subtitles.

++First the esprit private sale, then the topshop private sale. I got a newsboy cap, something which I've always wanted because it just looks so cool and celebrity-ish. I need more retail therapy, but I don't know what people wear for school.

+++I love my brown feet.

Finally after waiting for a few days, I got my hands on the pictures.. so here's the phuket exclusive, with never before seen photos (a.k.a. a tribute to everyone's favorite gossip site- pink is the new blog).

Shall not bother with chronological details since you've probably read about them on my fellow attention whores' blogs.. We watched the simon caberet but it turned out not to be a r(a) show, for better or worse. There were only a few pretty ones and some of the performances were really uninspiring. But this chick brought the house down to the tune of the zhong guo wa wa song. At the end she proceeded to smother an angmoh ah pek with her breasts.

Zhenjin couldn't stop looking at the pair of french boobies throughout the whole boat trip. It's not that impressive and she has an annoying voice but they still went to take photos of her secretly.

Kids, this is what happens when you get tired from walking all around the district and your head is lying on the table and you still continue to drink the coconut cocktail. Do not try this at home. The band there was fabulous. They called us F4 and they did a kylie number. We actually got to talk to the singer after the show (because she loved us) and we found out that she's pregnant. Couldn't tell though, the way she boogied on stage.

Didn't buy a lot because it's all pasar malam stuff. Like fake chanel headscarfs for muslim women and the ubiquitous diesel apparel. We travelled around a lot on the tuk tuk because that's the only way to go around the island. There was also a bus service but it never stopped where we wanted it to. The beaches were great, especially those on the phi phi islands. Phi phi is actually pronounced as pee pee. Funny huh. Had a great time feeding bread crumbs and watermelon slices to the fish hoping that we can trap one of them. No luck there though. A lot of places were still undergoing reconstruction and the tourist crowd still hasn't returned. I think this sums up our phuket trip best-->
