nye at expo: there is quite nothing like thousands of people dancing away to your idol's music- the armand van helden remix of tori amos' professional widow, further spliced by darren emerson. it's gonna be big. there is also nothing like a girl dead drunk.

woo hoo! parry failed his basic theory test too! a great way to end off the year.

we blew the doors didn't we? pissed in their champagne
and did a real thing didn't we? gave ourselves a name
and peeled away the shame
i wanted to explode
to pull my ribs apart
and let the sun inside
red stain blossoms
and all you have is kisses
and when the sunshine
throwing me a lifeline finds its way into my room
all i need is you
we called that love
all you have is kisses and all i need is you

4! MORE DAYS TO THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TO COME
ok this is my first real post in the past few days.. there were highs and lows. the high being i puked very unglamorously.. (me: can i not puke? xiaokai: of course you can.. but i still did anyway) so that was wed night. but i wasn't the only clown who got drunk.. so sorry to xinyi if we made your parents unhappy. and now i'm saddled with the task of organising the hew year eve thing?! i hate organising. it's a total bitch and a waste of sms.

spent most of christmas day snozzing. then there was the brilliant plan of going for mambo jambo night with the army guys. but after meeting up at 8 and eating some taka food, a few of us ended up watching the midnight show instead, as aforementioned.

friday was a lobo day. nothing exciting happened. i watched unfaithful. what a sad sad show.

today, the biggest odac gathering in months! 15 people came. it was typical, cuz after our lunch at a jap restaurant in tanjong pagar nobody had any idea what to do. we split up/went mph/went starbucks/went sembawang/went mph/went food court. notice we went to mph twice. how typical. i spent only like 24 dollars today.
it was good to see everybody again. very interesting stories about their roommates' sex life, of lack thereof, i heard. anyway on the way back home i realised *thunderclaps* that for my third and final year i'll be the only one from odac studying overseas..

and more on my new year resolutions.... buy a guitar and goddam learn it, or sign up for a class, or learn driving, or give tution? or simply, stop procrastinating and do everything at once.

oh forget the days of hard partying. watching school of rock is so much more worth my money than clubbing.. jack black is absolutely hilarious. the way he mimics all the rock star moves is way funny.. makes me want to be in a band... new year resolution.. learn sth useful by the end of next year..
forget about the best of 2003, these are the days of hard partying! bring it on!

2003yearBOOK

best comeback.. uma thurman. for exploding onto magazine covers and news headlines in a way not seen since nicole broke up with tom, for making it all worthwhile for me to have liked her since gattaca, for kicking serious ass in kill bill.. cool..

new phones.. and colour screens, and java games, and no more snake.

justin timberlake.. the only real male pop star today. starred in the funniest matrix reloaded spoof on the mtv movie awards. an example of a..

metrosexual. the new hot word, a way of being gay while still straight.

--more to come

the return of the king was an almost perfect end to the lotr trilogy. the ending was rather draggy.. i kept thinking 'that must be the end' but another scene pops up. it's all very grandiose and breathtaking. many people clapped after legolas' show-off scene. he has an awesome sense of balance, really.

i managed to come home on the last train. it was raining when i got off the mrt and i called home for fun. my mum insisted on bringing an umbrella to fetch me although i insisted on running back home. of course, one can only insist so much. so i waited 15 mins and walked home with my mum. i love my mum for always taking care of me.

it's scary to think that i'm 19 and i'm going to turn 20 in less than a year's time. it's time to act twentiesh and stop clapping like a mad man when i'm happy. haha.

still haven't settled what to do on christmas eve.

THE PREDICTABLE RANT ON THE STATE OF POP MUSIC

this would be a real neat present for me- Thesaurus Musicarum: The Pitchfork Year in Music 2003

i have to admit, i live for music. this year i bought more cds than ever before. the time given to digest each one decreases more n more.
let's see.. the new records i bought were

emmylou harris - stumble into grace
elbow - cast of thousands
cat power - you are free
tori amos - tales of a librarian
radiohead - hail to the thief
basement jaxx - kish kash
kings of leon - youth and young manhood
lucinda williams - world without tears

very little, until we consider the older records i bought

liz phair - exile in guyville
portishead - live in roseland nyc
ben folds five - whatever and ever amen
dee dee bridgewater - this is new
dee dee bridgewater - dear ella
ella fitzgerald - sings the irving berlin songbook
jazz moods compilation
badly drawn boy - hour of the bewilderbeast
flaming lips - yoshimi battles the pink robots
johnny cash - american iv the man comes around
interpol - turn on the bright lights
ryan adams - gold
pj harvey - stories from the city stories from the sea
fun lovin criminals - loco
antonio carlos jobim's finest hour
neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea
emmylou harris - last date

some i bought at cheap gramophone, some at expensive borders, some bought with vouchers, but if every cd cost 20 dollars, i would have spent 500 dollars [and counting] to satisfy my yearning ears this year.

Rock critic Michael Goldberg recently speculated that what makes music fanatics thirst for the obscure is the desire to discover music that is "uncontaminated by the commerce machine." This, he says, is the reason we cling to the abstract and unmarketable, the outlandish and abrasive. i have by all accounts a mainstream taste. indie stuff are hard to find and expensive. that's why i burn the rest: the notwist's neon golden, spoon's and weezer's records, beth gibbons and rustin man, etc. there are tens of bands and singers deserving every top 40 listener's attention.. broken social scene, sigur ros, damien rice, martina topley bird, the fire theft, wilco, ted leo and the pharmacists, my morning jacket, the darkness and people i haven't even downloaded: the decemberists, pretty girls make graves, sun kil moon, you know, weird band names make good bands.

so wake up! stop listening to the radio!

i haven't done any christmas shopping still.. today was supposed to go out with joseph and gang but somebody had to do COS.. and the usual ppl were busy so i put in a new roll of film and took a bus to somewhere near zouk. yes it's the long planned walk along singapore river photo excursion. the previous roll was a disaster as always. i'm hoping all 36 photos are developed this time. it was pretty interesting.. i always couldn't get the camera ready in time to catch a jogger or angmo girls strolling.. the gallery hotel is fascinating. i sneaked into the pool which actually juts out of the main building above the pavement. the liquid room is there. there's also a bar with turntables and a library of records..

saw the reverse bungee thing go up in the air from far but when i reached there nobody was taking the ride. it's not exactly a money spinner i guess. nb: the gatsby styling gel isn't good at all.

last week update all the way from sunday: i'm a sucker for romantic comedies. it's proven. i fell for how to lose a guy in 10 days and i fell for love actually.

it was a tough week.. it was section training all the way and it rained every single day.

my new n colorful lomographs are up!

12.06.2003

i just saw luke's photos with mel and kim and grace and other rj people. it looked like a hell lot of fun. my weekends are getting really routine. if i'm not staying at home i'd be outside spending mullah. i read the news about the guy who offered to be eaten.. it takes all kinds.. there's actually a cannibal community gasp.. more horrific than tonight's fear factor grossed out special.. i wasn't turned off by the pig blood mygosh i should have taken medicine.. my stomach feels funny.. it's pizza hut+vodka+kahlua+milk+ribena i'm sorry guys for forgetting to bring the bailey's and not wanting to go for the law thing. i'm really looking forward to christmas where everyone can meet up again. i am reading the minotaur takes a cigarette break but it's rather slow moving. i also accidentally exposed my lomo film during dinner.. i'm a failed photographer.. i'm looking for free hosting for pictures besides yahoo and snapfish. i'm thinking of ways to learn new skills. perhaps learn about money management so i won't have to get a financial planner next time.. added kim's blog it's fabulous.. lotsa aerial shots of new york city i've gotta watch monster's ball before i have to return the dvd.. i am as usual going through the blogs one by one.. my porn star name is hands diamond.. i am working myself into some semistate of depression.. there is no direction in life! nothing to work for. i am truly lost unto this world.
