it's film review time! first up, the house of the flying daggers, aka infernal affairs in period costume. i would give it 2 stars out of five. everyone i know thinks that it's darn funny and for a good reason too. it starts off pretty decently and then it's downhill from then on. points deducted for bad accented mandarin, draggy storyline and censoring off zhang ziyi's sex scene. you still gotta watch it for the cheoreographed dance-like fights and the dramatic deaths of various good soldiers. i hope wong kar wai has got something better up his sleeve. cannot believe they gave a standing ovation to this bore at the cannes. 25th hour, in dvd, edward norton has got to be the best actor of his generation. although his characters tend to rant a bit. this one has a good fuck the world rant- about minorities, as usual. longish film but great opening sequence showing the two beams of light shining skyward where the world trade center once stood. the girl next door, weird flick about puppy love between a student and his porn star neighbour. about as funny as mean girls. 3 1/2 stars for the hot non-r(a) action. there's a guy in the film called eli who is such a turn off i don't even wanna call myself eli anymore.

i'm watching private parts tomorrow.

gosh i went on a little shopping therapy and it felt good.
bit torrent is not working for me. all my albums sound like the tracks are spliced together. my mood now? inadeguate and insecure. i need to whine to somebody.
...
karen and xinyi, we should have gone to paragon yesterday afternoon. there was a small fire in one of the shops and the sprinklers were raining inside.
...
8:58pm, i overslept in the afternoon but still went for waiyong's commisioning parade. i'm happy for him cuz he chased his dream and got it. and tomorrow he's coming back to sungei gedong and hopefully he won't get a shitty job.
the parade is good stuff, more entertaining than usual, "gimmicky" according to hong guan. i saw eric khaw in the contingent but couldn't find him later. cecil ang was the parade commander. i felt like i was already in the twilight years of my ns life. i was the only person there wearing berms and sandals- no wonder everyone stared at me.  i will always remember dr tony tan starting off his speech saying 'ggrrraaaduands...' in a very dumbledore way.
in other news, i have no time to watch the oc! i'm only at the tenth episode. i would write more but i wanna watch southpark before i book in tonight.

i fell asleep on the bus on my way home and had to walk back from the end stop. how embarassing it was to be woken up by a stranger. i still cannot change lane in fast traffic, and the instructor still chopped a stamp on the booklet. there's something wrong about this, kind of like how the army gives you multiple choice questions that you will never fail, no matter how brainless you are.

yesterday i spent the whole afternoon and evening in the marina area. the events was baybeats 2004 but it was really an excuse for mats and assorted people with weird clothes and even weirder dress sense to parade about town. check out the blue coloured mohawks and the skinny striped pants, ma. first up was analog girl. i was expecting bjork-like histrionics but it was just some semblence of a tune with electronica beats. over at the chillout area, it was aspidistria fly playing um chillout music. mostly we were taking pictures of said weird people. then we went over to the arena (wow how very glastonbury) and saw pensionstate. they actually had screaming fans and fyi, i think the band's name sucks. some ho-hum noisy rock ensued.. very boring.. i didn't get it.. the lead singer kept on jumping into the air when the drummer plays something fancy. then i met joanne whom millie tried to hook me up with. har har. and then we went to see the observatory cuz i thought they were quite good and i could sing along cuz i have their cd, but the two girls said they were boring but i didn't think so. their keyboardist-cum-singer is schoolteacher-hot and leslie low has a better voice than that pensionstate guy. contrary to popular opinion the local music scene is alive and well judging from the catcalls and frantic applause. unfortunately they only played two old songs in their 30min set. i think that 'this sad song' actually has potential to be a radio hit, given the right amount of airplay. it's tunefulness is on par with say, keane's somewhere only we know or any coldplay song.

so that was it and it made me wanna buy a guitar. and even though i once swore that the first song i'll ever learn to play will never be 'more than words', i've been doing that since last week when i was stuck in camp. i am such a loser.

i'm bored i'm bored i'm bored. i'm having another long weekend (that is getting familiar- two weeks of confinement followed by a short holiday. what's more, we're being forced to clear our leave.) i've been trying to find people to go out with, that's how desperate i am. plan a fell through cuz i've already watched mean girls but i still intend to go meet melvin and get my dvds. plan b fell through cuz gabriel is free but jack has chicken pox (get well soon), unlikely as it sounds. plan c fell through cuz gabriel is free but morris has ncc day parade. plan d worked cuz i'm going to baybeats tomorrow at the esplanade with millie.

things to buy:
facial wash.
a new rifle cleaning kit cuz i lent somebody mine but don't remember who.
blue tape.
ben and jerry's.

see this! it's a music video made up of archived footage that matches the lyrics. funny funny this.
and my house now looks like a technophile's wet dream, there are two computers (flat screen!) many cables, a rerouter, a turbo modem! cds lying about. and i still haven't installed norton antivirus. the flip side: my digital camera's battery charger is spoilt.

i'm bored i'm bored i'm bored.

and now plan e: go to j8 to watch king arthur with morris and lor nianjia luke shan'er xiaokai.. so many people and xk is paying for my ticket but then after hearing so many unfavorable reviews from the people in camp i decided not to waste my time there. times like this, always recall what movies morris lor and luke goh like to watch ie. the best bet, the guru and so close..somebody watch supersize me with me!

listen to the music from wong kar wai's films. has a few faye wong songs and caetano veloso's (whose new cd was wildy raved in life's friday music review) cucurrucucu paloma from happy together, which incidentally is featured prominently in pedro almodovar's coma flick talk to her. even more eclectic than taratino's soundtracks. but enough about films. i wasn't very touched by the peter parker-mary jane romance in spider man 2, even though it's supposedly heartrending enough to make 40.5 million in a day. i think the best part about the spidercam is that it makes you confused about the direction spidey's actually going, so he could be circling round the same block for all i know. but that's just me. and he's got the whole deconstructed/slashed/punk look right with the semitorn costume which reveals bits of skin here and there.
not that interesting but well.. - if you still haven't visited rance, gossip insider rumored to be an a list actor.
i want i want my debit card to arrive soon so that i can buy stuff from ebay. and i don't really know who to support in tonight's euro finals. i think i'll go with portugal.

saved from doing cos today!
i just realised that i'd be 1000 dollars richer if i weren't learning driving. and since today was very lobo i had a lot of time to read glamorama in camp and i was completely overwhelmed by a chapter entirely devoted to describing a very graphic threesome. it's the erotic story to end all erotic stories, although the guy-on-guy action did turn yaohong off.

and nothing to spice up a blog like the best of the Milan fashion week!
