i just wasted an hour or so reading paris hilton's phone book and assorted stuff. apparently many people tried calling the various famous people. i would have called lindsay lohan.

i'm glad that cornell has finally sent me a snail mail so that at least i don't have to be paranoid about them forgetting about me. for a while there, i was getting paranoid.

i've been having fun playing the sims although my computer is rather laggy. the first thing i learnt was that it's not easy to create good looking people. i wanted my own version of the o.c. and have my own soap opera storyline to go along with. i also spent a lot of time buying furniture and fixtures for my roman villa and was ready to put my love-to-club teenage siblings with ah-lian mama in the house when the game told me that the family can't afford the house. i shall refer to the cheat codes then.

zerodross, i shall be looking forward to that. and other funky things.
zhenjin, like that huh.. it's going to be hard to schedule things already. but greece is good. and expensive. italy!
mel, wish you were here man. there's shirley horn on march 19 but looks like i have to miss it. my only consolation is that there are a few diana krall fans in my bunk.

My fifth last week of ns was spent in relative peacefulness. thursday, i slept till 8am, had a short lecture, rested the rest of the morning, got forced to clear half day off, ended up watching million dollar baby. i made sure that i only switched on my phone for a few hours everyday so that i won't receive any unwarranted calls. i brought home my national geographic, time, and gq magazines. i had a bout of appetite loss and only went to the cookhouse twice. i decided that i shall no longer deal in conversations that revolve around the same few topics aka recurring topics about certain people and certain events. and neither am i going to be part of a conversation in an mrt that includes excessive vulgarities.

today was supposed to be different but ended up the same, because no one has any new idea as to what to do. movies were out and nobody was keen on watching the shanghai jazz concert. apparently, a jazz rendition of rose, rose i love you wasn't an appealing enough reason to watch the show.
but it was good because for the first time in a long while, there were more than 4 people at dinner. in fact, there were 6. we also checked off everything in the list of things to do on a boring saturday night.
  • meet at city hall mrt with no particular place to go in mind (ticked)
  • wait for people to come at the citylink hmv (ticked; almost wanted to buy 3cds for $20- jane's addiction, dandy warhols and black rebel motocycle club )
  • wander around for a dinner place for 2 hours (ticked)
  • walk in circles (ticked; went past suntec fountain twice)
  • end up in a restaurant with rather bad service (ticked; the outback is understaffed)
  • visit the esplanade (ticked; saw the well heeled crowd that came out of the concert hall; sat at the promenade discussing nightmares about broken ipods)
  • browse the movie poster shop and eat at max brenner's (ticked, not ticked; didn't want to queue)
  • stroll down the singapore river yet again (ticked)
  • talk about new phones and old classmates (ticked)
  • stop across the road from the fullerton hotel wishing i were inside (ticked; also spotted a woman with huge boobs)
  • drink (ticked; that's ice milo at mcdonald's but i should have tried orange mcfizz)

can't recall the last time i got high.

it just gets worse every year, don't you think? tripping up and down singapore, visiting various homes, smiling and greeting, getting alienated by cousins who aren't of my age, hearing things like "now you're looking more like (fill in your blanks, cue the 'er's)", these are just part and parcel of a grand tradition we call the lunar new year. and then i think, whoa, years down the road, i ain't gonna see much of this extended family no more, it will be me bringing my kids to my parents and i'll see my siblings and maybe some cousins and that's it. the compartmentalization of the family tree. i wouldn't even know my relatives if i saw them on the street. which is already the case, by the way. it's sad i know.
but for now, i'll just have to bear with the polite conversation with strangers whom my parents happen to know, and see the older generation grey, see the younger ones get married or stay out of the house, see the toddlers turn into children, watch the bad television programmes...

i am destined to keep busy because everytime i have a break i tend to fall sick. also, the only illness i get is the common cold. thus, no more bah kua, love letters and pineapple tarts.

the most headache inducing bus ad of all time has gotta be the one for axe brand oil. tagline: fast relief for headaches. it's basically mulitiple images of the er iconic green, black and white box plastered all over the bus. don't look at it for more than 5 seconds or it will kill.

fiona apple fans rejoice! 2 new songs have been leaked onto the net. get them and tell me what you think.
personally, i can't get enough.

i managed to get my new clothes in time for chinese new year after going around orchard on several occasions. it's just one of those bothersome new year customs but seeing that it will be my last chinese new year in singapore for the next 4 years... my shopping budget was really low cuz i'm trying to save more money for my post-ord holiday. we're going to brisbane and gold coast! frankly i think that fann wong's 8days guide to queensland overhyped the place a bit. i just hope to have lots of fun and not be disappointed like i tend to be. and the harbourtown factory outlet had better be good too.

i've decided to go to the gym at safra mount faber since national service is ending soon and i must find other means of keeping fit. i'm not a big fan of jogging alone either. the coolest thing about safra is the showers. they have this high ceiling and the shower head hangs overhead and the hot water comes down like it's raining. oh alright that's not a good metaphor but it's really cool. the minus point is that the doors are made of frosted glass and have no lock.

the ipod, currently invading every bus and train in singapore, proves that there is music for every occasion. there are days when i can't stomach bands like placebo and queens of the stone age but on some days they make damn fine walking music. i think i've said it before but i've got to say it again. whitney houston is my guilty pleasure! despite her affinity for drugs she was one of the best vocal stylists ever. i can just imagine her on the stage in a backless gown, holding a hankie in her left hand, thumping her chest as she reaches for every chest busting impossible note. haha. this week i shall attempt to transfer my cds into my ipod.
